| Home From Work is a duo that brings a unique blend of jazz, classical, and folk influences to songs like Irving Berlin’s “Blue Skies,” Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five,” The Gershwin Brothers’ “I Got Rhythm,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,” plus the music of Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Paul Simon, Aaron Copland, and more. Picture a violin, guitar, and voice, blend in some serious credentials in classical and folk music, add a common love of jazz, mix in some virtuoso playing and a genuine sense of ease on stage, and you’ve got Home From Work. |
Singer and guitarist Sandor Slomovits has been writing, performing and
recording folk music for children and families for more than three decades,
as part of the nationally acclaimed duo Gemini. Gemini’s recordings, songbooks,
and video have won numerous awards from, among others, the American Library
Association, Parents’ Choice Magazine, and the National Parenting Publications
Association.
Gabriel Bolkosky has played classical violin since early childhood and has a
Master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Music. He is the musical
director of The Phoenix Ensemble, a chamber group that has collaborated with a
wide variety of artists, including Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Bill Bolcom and
dancer/choreographer Peter Sparling. He is also a much sought after teacher, both
in Ann Arbor and as a clinician at Suzuki institutes nationwide.
Home From Work is also available as a trio, quartet, or quintet with the addition
of piano, bass, and drums.
